The Legend Lives On...

How did we get ourselves into this? It all started innocently enough, with an e-mail from C.J. Spence last May:

Last weekend i had a great sunday morning run and i had a what if! What if oc2-70 ran a marathon! Could be as a team or Group!

So the thought is now planted! take care cj

Before we could come to our senses, Gidmark - a veteran of the Edmund Fitzgerald - had put the wheels in motion. Next thing we knew, we were a team...

The legend lives on. Here's the story. And now, the song.

A word of explanation: Last names are used exclusively identifying the Antique Eltees in these pictures. We really do use first names, but remember, we lived with each other for 6 months wearing our last names above our left pockets. Old habits die hard.


Our hero. Storbeck nearing the end of his epic 26K mud run in under 8 minutes per mile.	Gidmark on the run. The anti-camouflage vest keeps him from disappearing into the background.	Vogelsang, with open road behind. He has no problems with visibility

	The first relay point was the Beaver Bay Inn. This appears to be Storbeck, doing a rain dance. Why?
	Breakfast at the Beaver Bay. Storbeck is psyching himself by reading the financial pages. Campbell modeling the new Fitz shirt.
	Storbeck to Gidmark, 45k. Note that the pavement has reappeared.
	Gidmark to Vogelsang, 70k. Check out the Florida vs Minnesota running wear.

	Vogelsang to Shipp at 80k (smooth relay, guys). Music is amused.
	Remember the Titans. About a dozen steps into his leg of the race, Shipp is already wishing he was rowing 5k instead of running it.
	Shipp to Park at 85k. Music is amazed.
	Park to Easterling at 90K. By this time the vest with our team number was pretty gruesome.
	Easterling ready to turn it over.

	Easterling to Corrigan at 95k. The hat and gloves were discarded after the first mile.
	Corrigan roars into the home stretch, wondering why there's no cheering crowd.
	It's over! Way to go, Corrigan! Now let's go to Burger King.
	Riding in style. The support van was appropriately OD in color.
	The boys on the bus. Smiles of satisfaction at honest effort. And glad to be warm and dry.
